Nova Co-Design are very pleased to join the Wates Construction team to provide education design advice, integration services, and furniture, fittings and equipment design for the Portland Academy project.
The scheme, a £8m conversion of the redundant MoD mine sweeper headquarters situated close to the edge of Portland Bill. The design will deliver innovative use of space for ‘school within a school’ model of education. The four equitable Homebases provide learning zones for years 4 to 11 in a variety of open plan and closed spaces. The design team have been working in close collaboration to integrate learning practices with acoustic requirements with furniture and fluid space provision.
Nova Co-Design form part of a team alongside AHR Architects, Mach Acoustics and Method M&E. Success is being driven by working closely with the school’s team to understand their curriculum development and technology use. Space and budgets are as always tight so an integrated approach to the design is bringing real value to the contractor and their client.
